Road Commission worker hit by truck in Houghton County

CHASSELL TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Houghton County Road Commission worker was struck by a vehicle while working on a snow plow over the weekend. 

The Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Saturday around 11:30 a.m. on North Entry Road near Channel View Lane in Chassell Township.  A truck driven by Walter Hitch, 89, of Portage Entry was southbound when he lost control of his vehicle on a corner.  The truck hit a Road Commission vehicle that was parked in front of a broken-down snow plow on the side of the road.  It also hit one of two Road Commission employees who were working on the plow. 

Brian Julio, 40, was taken to UPHS Portage for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
