Steel falls from semi near Paulding

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI--   No injuries were reported, after a semi lost its load of steel beams in Ontonagon County.  

Sheriff’s deputies were notified Thursday around 2:30 p.m. of the accident on US-45 near Interior Road, south of Paulding. 

Roger Franzen of Merrill, WI was driving the semi tractor-trailer when the steel beams he was carrying shifted and fell off the trailer.  They fell onto part of the roadway and in the ditch.

It took multiple tow trucks and heavy equipment several hours to load the beams back onto the trailer. 

Franzen was cited for having an unsecured load.

Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
