Speeding driver blamed for Sands Township accident

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two vehicles were heavily damaged in a traffic accident in Sands Township Tuesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 5:45 p.m. on County Road 480 near Cherry Creek Road.  A minivan driven by Dale Vadnais, 59, of Marquette was turning left into a private drive and a Jeep Cherokee driven by Patricia Joyal, 52, of Palmer was stopped behind it, waiting. After the van turned the Jeep moved forward, but it was hit from behind by a Chevy Cobalt driven by Tyler Leaf, 26, of Marquette.

Both drivers were taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Leaf was cited for speeding.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
