MARQUETTE, MI - The search for a man and a woman swept into Lake Superior at Presque Isle Park in Marquette has been suspended

The Marquette Police Department received a report yesterday at about 1:35pm of two people swept off Black Rocks during yesterday’s severe weather. Presque Isle and Lake Shore Boulevard, the road leading to the island, had been closed due to poor weather conditions.

According to WLUC-TV, the search was suspended last night pending further developments. Weather conditions – including 25-foot waves and winds up to 40 miles-per-hour – were considered too dangerous to send boats out to search. A Coast Guard helicopter searched for three hours before the operation was suspended.

The Coast Guard describes the man as bald with facial hair and wearing a camouflage jacket and jeans. The woman was wearing a blue or purple jacket and jeans. She appeared to be unconscious.
