Car hits back of Marquette school bus

MARQUETTE, MI--   No injuries are reported, following a crash between a car and a school bus in Marquette.

Sheriff’s deputies responded Wednesday around 4:20 p.m. to Brookton Road just west of South Vandenboom

Road. They say the school bus was preparing to come to a stop and had activated its yellow flashing lights. An 18-year-old Marquette woman driving a car behind the bus said she didn’t notice it slowing. She hit her brakes, but the car struck the back of the bus.

The car sustained significant damage but the bus had very little. None of the 15 students on board was injured.

The Marquette woman was cited for careless driving.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
