Motorcyclist crashes into deer in Sagola Township

SAGOLA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate man has been injured in a motorcycle-deer crash in Dickinson County. 

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post say it happened Monday around 10:10 a.m. on East M-69 in Sagola Township. They say a deer ran out into the path of Philip Curtis, 74, of Williamsburg. The motorcycle hit the deer, struck a mailbox, and came to rest in the ditch.  

Curtis was taken to Dickinson County Healthcare System, where he was admitted for non-life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
