Teen falls into Portage Lake while fishing

HOUGHTON, MI--   A 15-year-old boy is lucky to be uninjured after he fell from a boat on Portage Lake.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, Michigan State Police, and members of the U.S. Coast Guard Station Portage were dispatched Thursday to the lake near Bootjack Road on a report that an unoccupied boat had crashed into a dock. They determined a 15-year-old male had been fishing when he fell off the boat while it was running. The teen was in the water for about

25 minutes before a passing boat found him and took him to shore.

The teen was not injured in the incident.
