Car-bus crash injures two in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   Two people were injured after a car hit a school bus in Escanaba Monday.

Around 7:40 a.m. an Escanaba Public Safety officer was parked at 18th Avenue South and South Lincoln Road. There have been reports of vehicles not stopping when buses are picking up children.

A bus, lights activated, was on 18th Avenue picking up students and traffic was halted in both lanes when a northbound vehicle drove past the stopped vehicles and into the back of the bus.

The bus contained three children. One sustained minor injuries, but the other students and driver were uninjured. The child was treated at OSF St. Francis Hospital and later released.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. They were cited for careless driving and submitted for a driver re-examination.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
