Man rescued after Schoolcraft Township snowmobile crash

LAKE LINDEN, MI--   An Ohio man was injured in a snowmobile accident in Keweenaw County Wednesday evening.

Troopers from the Calumet Post say the 65-year-old was traveling Trail #23 In Schoolcraft Township near Sawmill Road around 6:55 p.m. The machine failed to negotiate a left turn in the trail and crashed into a group of trees. The driver was ejected from the snowmobile and sustained leg or hip injuries.

The driver was able to contact authorities. Bootjack First Responders rescued him from the crash site and took him to an ambulance. He was treated at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.

Troopers say alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed were not factors in the accident. They say the man overdriving his capabilities and being unfamiliar with the trail did contribute to the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
