Car hits tree in Grant Township

GRANT TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Calumet man was taken to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash in Keweenaw County Saturday.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say the accident happened around 4:25 p.m. on US-41 about a mile north of Lac La Belle Road in Grant Township. A Ford Fusion driven by a 19-year-old Calumet man was northbound when it left the road and struck a tree.

The driver was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
