Crews search water off northern Michigan for small plane

The Telegraph

FRANKFORT, MI (AP)--   Authorities say crews are searching Lake Michigan off of downstate Frankfort for a missing plane.

The Benzie County Sheriff's Office says the small plane that took off from the Ontonagon County Airport was reported missing between 8 and 8:30 Sunday night over Lake Michigan about four miles west of Frankfort.

The Sheriff's Office says two people were believed to be aboard the single-engine plane. Officials say they were flying from Ontonagon to downstate Monroe.

The U.S. Coast Guard is involved in the search. A helicopter crew from Detroit searched without finding anything.

The Coast Guard says a plane and boat crew both searched Monday, and a Traverse City-based helicopter crew has also joined the search.
