Three vehicles crash in Marquette Township on Memorial Day

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash in Marquette Township Monday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 2:45 p.m. on US-41 West near Northwoods Drive. Shirley Ford, 93, of Negaunee was on the private drive between Lowe’s and GFS. She had stopped at the stop sign, then turned left into oncoming traffic while trying to cross into the eastbound lanes. She side-swiped a westbound Lincoln driven by Mary Ann Carriere, 78, of Marquette, then struck a pickup truck driven by Melissa Salminen, 41, of Marquette head-on.

Ford complained of minor injury but sought her own treatment. Salminen was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of her injuries. Carriere was not injured.

Ford was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
