Car overturns on US-41 in Negaunee Township

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Skandia teen was not seriously hurt when his vehicle overturned on US-41 in Negaunee Township.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say the accident happened Wednesday at about 12:40 p.m. near Heritage Drive. A 17-year-old was eastbound in a GMC Envoy and had moved into the passing lane when the vehicle’s steering wheel locked to the left. The driver was unable to straighten the wheel and entered the median of the highway. When the Envoy hit the westbound lanes it overturned and skidded on its roof before coming to a stop.

Other motorists assisted the man out of his vehicle. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver was not ticketed for the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
