Minor injuries reported in Ely Township accident

ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   Drugs are believed to be a factor in an Ely Township accident Sunday.

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post were dispatched around 8:10 a.m. to County Road 581 near Southwood Lane.

Troopers say a Subaru Forester driven by a 40-year-old Ishpeming man was northbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It hit a power pole and broke it in half.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries. A passenger was not injured.

Troopers say seat belts were worn at the time of the crash. They think drugs were a factor.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
