Woman extricated from vehicle following Franklin Township crash

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was injured in an accident in Franklin Township Monday.

Around 8 a.m. troopers from the Calumet Post responded to the intersection of US-41 and Highway Road. They say Lila Hobmeier, 77, was in the left northbound lane of the highway when she turned left and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Rebekka Mikkola, 32.

Mikkola’s vehicle came to rest off the roadway in the ditch. The Calumet Township Fire Department had to extricate her from her car. She was taken to UPHS-Portage, where she remains in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation. Further action is pending.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
