Head-on crash involves truck towing boat in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were taken to the hospital after a traffic accident in Houghton County Thursday. 

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post were dispatched around 1:20 p.m. to M-26 near the intersection of Coal Dock Road in Franklin Township. Troopers say an eastbound vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and struck a pickup towing a boat and trailer. The pickup overturned and dumped the boat onto Coal Dock Road.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

The driver and passenger of the car were taken to UPHS-Portage with unknown injuries. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock City Police, the Dollar Bay Fire Department, a local doctor, and area First Responders assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
