Houghton man crashes vehicle in Torch Lake Township

TORCH LAKE TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says a single-vehicle crash resulted in a car fire in Torch Lake Township Saturday morning.

Around 6:45 a.m. a 26-year-old Houghton man was southbound on Baulman Road at a high rate of speed when he crested a hill near Nightingale Road and saw a curve ahead. The driver hit the brakes and the car skidded about 170 feet before it entered a grassy area. The vehicle traveled another 150 feet before it hit a tree and burst into flames.

The driver was able to escape the vehicle after it caught fire. It was completely engulfed in flames by the time the Dollar Bay Fire Department arrived.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Portage for evaluation.

The Dollar Bay First Responders assisted at the scene.
