Houghton County accident injures two

HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI--   Two teens were injured in a single-vehicle crash in Houghton County over the weekend.

Sheriff’s deputies responded Saturday around 3 p.m. to Tapiola Road. They say a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old girl from Pelkie passed another vehicle, then lost control on slushy roads as she re-entered her lane of travel. The vehicle spun around several times, went into the ditch and traveled about 100 feet before it struck a culvert on a driveway. The vehicle then traveled another 100 feet before coming to rest on its wheels in the ditch.

The driver and a 16-year-old boy from Calumet were injured. They were treated at the scene by Otter Lake First Responders, then taken to UPHS-Portage for further treatment.

The vehicle sustained major damage.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
