UP teens who died in vehicle had carbon monoxide poisoning

BARAGA, MI--   Baraga County sheriff Rick Johnson says two teens found unconscious in a running vehicle in February died from carbon monoxide poisoning. 

The vehicle was discovered February 17 at the end of Silver Road in L’Anse Township. Dylan Roberts, 17, of L’Anse and Christopher Turpeinen, 17, of Pelkie were found dead inside. Hunter Pelon, 17, of Baraga was taken to a Green Bay hospital. She emerged from a coma three days after the incident and continues to recover.

Johnson released the cause of the deaths after toxicology tests were completed.   

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
