ORV rider injured in Champion Township

CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate man was injured while off-roading in Marquette County Friday.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 2 p.m. to the Mulligan Truck Trail in northern Champion Township. A group of ORV riders was on the trail when one of them got stuck. Someone in the party fastened a winch to a dead tree to try to get the vehicle out. When they engaged the winch, it pulled the tree down onto Gregory Dehring, 59, of Rogers City. His back and chest were injured.

Due to the remoteness of the area, Valley Med Helicopter was called in to transport Dehring to the hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
