Car hits crane, bursts into flames in Houghton County

ADAMS TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people were injured when a car hit a crane in Houghton County’s Adams Township Thursday morning.

Around 2 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident on Canal Road near Old Mill Hill Road. The vehicle rear-ended a crane that was fixing damage caused by the 2018 Father’s Day flood. The car caught on fire. Flames also damaged the crane.

The driver and one passenger were taken to UPHS-Portage with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers fled the scene before deputies arrived but were found a short time later.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
