ELY TOWNSHIP, MI--   A 19-year-old Ishpeming man is hospitalized after he was hit by a vehicle Saturday morning on US-41 in Ely Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 6:25 a.m. to an area just west of Jerzee’s 41 Club. A pedestrian walking along the edge of the road was struck from behind by a service vehicle.

The 39-year-old Wisconsin driver said he was eastbound, heading to work, when he came upon the man walking east on the edge of the road. The man was wearing dark clothing.

The pedestrian was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of serious injuries.

Deputies say alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation. No citations have been issued.
