Skandia motorcyclist killed in crash with truck

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   A motorcyclist has died following an accident with a pickup truck in Sands Township.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Wednesday around 10:50 p.m. to County Road 480 near Pelissier Lake Road. They got to the scene within two minutes of the initial call, and with the assistance of the public began lifesaving measures on the motorcycle driver from Skandia. The measures were unsuccessful and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dickinson County man driving the pickup was apparently not injured.

Officials say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

While deputies were investigating that accident a second crash happened at the site. A car failed to stop for a Sands Township Emergency Fire pickup truck that was blocking the scene.

Michigan State Police believe alcohol was involved in that crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
