Schoolcraft County crash kills one

THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Manistique man was killed in a construction zone crash in Schoolcraft County Tuesday.

Michigan State Police were called around 10 a.m. to the area of US-2 and Stanley Road in Thompson Township. Troopers say a vehicle driven by Chester Goodreau, 25, failed to stop for traffic waiting in a highly marked construction zone. He rear-ended another vehicle.

Goodreau was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

Officials say speed, distracted driving and drug use are suspected factors in the accident.
