Baraga County man killed in crash

L'ANSE TOWNSHIP, MI— A L’Anse man was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Baraga County Friday.

State Police from the Calumet Post were dispatched around 10:15 p.m. to Dynamite Hill Road near Pinery Road in L’Anse Township.

Investigation indicates a vehicle driven by Kenneth Ripley, 44, was westbound when he lost control and was unable to negotiate a curve. The vehicle slid sideways into the ditch and overturned.

Ripley was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
