Ontonagon County accident critically injures one, another flees scene

ONTONAGON COUNTY, MI— A driver sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Ontonagon County.

Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post say it happened Saturday around 4:30 p.m. on US-45 near Military Hill.

Troopers located the vehicles, along with one injured person. Another person had fled into the woods and couldn’t be found. The injured individual was transported to UPHS-Marquette, where they remain in critical condition.

Alcohol and drugs are believed to be significant factors in the crash.

Assisting troopers with the investigation are the Federal Forest Service, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
