Woman hit by vehicle, killed in Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A car-pedestrian accident has taken the life of a Sault Ste. Marie woman.

Thursday around 5:50 p.m. officers from the Soo Police Department responded to Ashmun Street near Dawson Street. A Jeep SUV apparently struck Sharon Kennedy, 73, of the Soo.

Lifesaving measures were administered. Kennedy was taken to War Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep was at the scene when police arrived and has not been arrested.

Once investigation of the incident has been completed, it will be turned over to the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
