One killed in Burt Township crash

BURT TOWNSHIP, MI— A 70-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident in Alger County Thursday.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Office say it happened just after 1 p.m. on M-77 in Burt Township. The driver failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck several large trees. The Burt Township Fire Department extricated the man from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
