Munising Township snowmobile accident claims downstate man's life

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI— Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post are investigating a fatal snowmobile crash in Alger County.

Troopers say it happened Friday around 12:30 p.m. on Trail #8 near Riley Road in Munising Township. A 43-year-old man from Taylor, Michigan was riding with a group when he failed to negotiate a curve. The machine and driver left the trail and struck a tree.

The victim was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officials believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
