Snowmobile crash kills Minnesota man

BARAGA COUNTY, MI— A snowmobiler from Minnesota has been killed in a Baraga County accident.

The Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened Wednesday at about 8:45 p.m. on Trail #8 in Covington Township. A 44-year-old man was westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve and was ejected from the snowmobile.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

The victim’s name is being withheld, pending notification of family.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan DNR, Covington Fire, Michigamme/Spurr Fire, L’Anse Fire and Bay EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
