Snowmobile fatality in Ironwood Township

GOGEBIC COUNTY, MI— A Wisconsin man has been killed in a Gogebic County snowmobile accident.

The Department of Natural Resources says it occurred Sunday around 1:45 p.m. along Trail #160 near Lookout Mountain in Ironwood Township. Richard Reesman, 73, of Burlington, Wisconsin was riding with his 71-year-old wife Kathy when he missed a corner on the trail and struck a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathy Reesman was taken to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital for treatment of shoulder pain.

Conservation Officers are urging snowmobilers to ride at speeds appropriate for conditions and their abilities. Excessive speed is the No. 1 cause of fatal and serious injury accidents in Michigan.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
