Ironwood truck and school bus crash injures children

IRONWOOD, MI— Some children were injured when a truck and a school bus collided in Ironwood yesterday Thursday.

Around 2:30 p.m. the Ironwood Public Safety Department was dispatched to US-2 east of Easy Street. When officers arrived they found a large debris field of beer and soda cans and bottles. Both drivers submitted to field sobriety tests and preliminary breath testing. Neither had been consuming alcohol. The driver of the pickup said the bottles were returnables that were in the back of the truck.

Three children from the bus and the driver of the pickup were taken to Aspirus Ironwood with what are believed to be non-serious injuries. The other children were released to their parents.

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
