Snowmobile runs over Indiana man in Chippewa County, seriously injuring him

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI— A snowmobiler was seriously injured in a crash in Chippewa County last week.

Thursday around 3:45 p.m. sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Trail #47 in Superior Township. Eleven snowmobiles were traveling as a group when the lead sled ran out of gas. Another snowmobile ran into it, ejecting the driver of the lead sled. A third snowmobile then ran over the driver of the first snowmobile—a 30-year-old Indiana man.

Deputies say one of the people in the group used a belt as a tourniquet to help stop the victim’s bleeding, which likely saved his life.

Speed and riding too close together were factors in the accident.

Police are reminding snowmobilers to slow down on the trails.
