Negaunee Township crash seriously injures driver

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI— A driver was seriously hurt in a single-vehicle accident in Negaunee Township Wednesday.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office was dispatched around 9:50 a.m. to County Road 510 north of Hardwood Lane.

Deputies say the vehicle was heading south when it left the roadway and hit a rock embankment. It went airborne about 92 feet before landing back on the road. The vehicle then rolled over, hit the guardrail, spun around, and came to a stop in the center of the road.

The driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious injuries. They were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
