Teen sustains life-threatening injuries after she falls from truck in Houghton County

HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI— A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after she fell from a pickup truck in Houghton County Friday night.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to UPHS-Portage around 11:35 p.m. following a report of a single-vehicle personal injury crash.

A 22-year-old man was driving the pickup southbound on M-203 near Lily Pond Road when his 17-year-old girlfriend fell out of the cab and onto the roadway. She sustained life-threatening injuries. The man rushed her to the hospital for treatment. She was later transferred to an Ann Arbor hospital for further care.

Hancock City Police and Michigan Tech Public Safety assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
