Camper tips over on US-41 near Skandia

SKANDIA, MI— No injuries were reported when a camper overturned near Skandia Wednesday.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to US-41 South at M-94. They found a camper trailer lying on its side in the northbound lanes of US-41.

Officials say a Florida couple in a pickup were towing the camper southbound when the driver tried to merge from the left lane to the right to go around a passenger car. The camper’s brakes seized, causing the camper to fishtail. The driver was unable to recover and the camper tipped onto its side, dragging the pickup truck with it.

The camper was righted by Goodwin’s Towing.

The Skandia-West Branch Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
