Passenger ejected, killed in Mackinac County crash

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, MI— A passenger was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Mackinac County Tuesday night.

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post were dispatched around 11:50 p.m. to H-33 near Norton Road in Newton Township. When they arrived at the vehicle, they found the alleged driver had run off. The passenger was ejected and died at the scene.

A State Police K-9 was brought in and tracked the location of the driver. The alleged driver was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

Both speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

No names have been released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
