UPDATE: House explodes in Houghton County

UPDATE, 8/31/22: Authorities say a 64-year-old woman was killed in the explosion. A man was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw, treated, and released.

No names have been released.

HANCOCK TOWNSHIP, MI— One person was injured in a house explosion in Hancock Township Tuesday morning.

The Houghton County Sheriff's Office responded around 9 a.m. to a residence on M-203 north of McLain State Park. When deputies arrived, they found the building destroyed and still on fire.

An unidentified person was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital. Their condition is unknown.

A state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
