City of Hancock

HANCOCK TOWNSHIP, MI— Police have identified the woman killed in a Hancock Township house explosion Tuesday morning.

The Houghton County Sheriff's Office says Deborah Mann, 64, died in the explosion and subsequent fire at a residence on M-203 north of McLain State Park.

Mann was Coordinator for the Hancock Downtown Development Authority. In a Facebook post, city officials said Mann was an advocate who tirelessly devoted her time and energy into making the community great through various programs, events, and volunteering efforts.

They invited residents to share their memories of Mann at the Tori & Farmer’s Market Thursday evening.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
