Logging truck crashes into vehicle at Negaunee intersection, injuring two

NEGAUNEE, MI— Two teenagers were seriously hurt when their vehicle was hit by a logging truck in Negaunee Friday morning.

Negaunee City Police say the accident happened around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of US-41 and Teal Lake Avenue.

A Subaru Impreza driven by an 18-year-old girl with a 16-year-old passenger was northbound on Teal Lake Avenue when she disregarded a flashing red light at the intersection with the highway. The Subaru was struck by an eastbound logging truck driven by a 27-year-old man.

The driver and passenger of the Subaru were taken to UPHS-Marquette with serious injuries. The driver of the semi was not hurt.

No other information is available at this time.

Assisting at the scene were the Ishpeming Police Department, Michigan State Police, Negaunee Fire Department, and UPHS-Bell and Marquette EMS.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
