Fatal snowmobile accident in AuTrain Township

AuTRAIN TOWNSHIP, MI— An Alger County woman has died in a snowmobile crash in AuTrain Township.

Sheriff’s officials say it happened Monday around 9 p.m. on Trail #7, about a mile north of Buckhorn Road. They say a 50-year-old woman was southbound when she failed to negotiate a curve. The snowmobile left the trail, struck several trees, and ejected the driver.

The victim’s husband located her and transported her to their residence on South Lost Lake Road, where he called 911. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman died from her injuries.

The victim’s name is being withheld, pending notification of family.

It’s unknown whether any other factors contributed to the incident, which remains under investigation.
