Gogebic County reports snowmobile fatality

MARENISCO TOWNSHIP, MI— A Minnesota woman has been killed in a snowmobile accident in Gogebic County.

Sheriff’s deputies say it happened Friday around 7:45 p.m. on Trail #2, about seven miles east of M-64 in Marenisco Township. The 26-year-old was traveling westbound when she failed to negotiate a slight curve. The snowmobile went off the trail and she was ejected.

The victim’s father and a friend administered CPR until paramedics arrived and attempted lifesaving measures, but the woman died of her injuries.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
