AuGres resident seriously injured in Alger County snowmobile accident

ALGER COUNTY, MI— A downstate man is in critical condition, following a snowmobile accident in Alger County Saturday.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just after 4 p.m. on Trail #7 near County Road 440. A 53-year-old Au Gres man was northbound when he failed to negotiate a curve, left the trail, was ejected from the snowmobile, and hit a tree.

The man was removed from the scene by Alger County Rescue 21 to a helicopter landing site. Guardian Flight transported him to UPHS-Marquette for treatment.

Excessive speed and inexperience are considered to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.
