Ontonagon garage and vehicles damaged when Ohio man crashes into them

ONTONAGON, MI— An Ohio man was taken to the hospital after his vehicle hit a garage in the Village of Ontonagon.

Sunday around 3:30 a.m., a 29-year-old Chillicothe resident was northbound on Chippewa Street when he failed to negotiate the turn at Prehnite Street. His vehicle struck the garage of a house at 701 Prehnite.

The driver was taken to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital for his injuries. His passenger, a 27-year-old Chillicothe man, sustained minor injuries and sought his own treatment.

No one in the house was injured, but the driver’s vehicle and the homeowners’ vehicles sustained considerable damage.

Deputies believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by troopers from the Wakefield and Iron Mountain posts. The Ontonagon Village Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
