Men fall through Keweenaw Bay ice, are eventually rescued

BARAGA COUNTY, MI— Two men had to be rescued from Keweenaw Bay earlier this month after they fell through the ice.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post responded February 8 to an area off Baraga County. When they arrived, they saw the men in the water, 250 to 300 yards offshore. Troopers guided Keweenaw Bay Tribal Police to their location and the men were rescued.

Both were taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.

Michigan State Police are reminding residents to make sure ice is as safe as possible before walking out on it.
