Marenisco Township snowmobile accident kills one

MARENISCO TOWNSHIP, MI— An Illinois woman has been killed in a snowmobile accident in Gogebic County.

Wednesday around 5 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers from the Wakefield Post responded to a report of a crash on Trail #1 near the Wisconsin border in Marenisco Township.

Reports indicate Cindy Zinaveah of Antioch, Illinois was traveling southbound when she tried to negotiate a curve, left the trail, and went over a snowbank. The machine went airborne and struck several trees.

Troopers administered lifesaving measures, but Zinaveah was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is unknown and remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies include the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Beacon First Responders and EMS, Negaunee Regional Dispatch, and the MSP Chaplin Corps.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
