Several injured in M-28 pileup near the Soo

DAFTER TOWNSHIP, MI— M-28 between I-75 and M-221 in Chippewa County was closed for about 2.5 hours Wednesday, due to a multiple-vehicle crash.

In a Facebook post, the Dafter Township Fire Department said at least nine vehicles were involved in the accident that happened around 1 p.m. near Soo Line Road. Officials say six people were taken to the hospital.

Whiteout conditions appear to have been at play in a photo posted by Chippewa County Central Dispatch. The official cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says the road was reopened around 3:30 p.m.

Assisting at the scene were Kinross EMS, Bay Mills EMS, and the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department.
