Car crash causes power outage in Chocolay Township

CHOCOLAY TOWSHIP, MI— A single-vehicle crash brought power lines down in Harvey Tuesday morning.

Chocolay Township Police say it happened around 8:45 a.m. on US-41 in front of Ace Hardware.

Police say it appears the driver had a medical emergency, which caused the crash. He was taken to UPHS-Marquette for evaluation.

The highway was closed and drivers were detoured for about two hours while the Marquette Board of Light and Power worked to restore electricity.

Marquette City Police, Michigan State Police, and the Chocolay Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
