Man injured after truck hits his moped in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, MI— One person was taken to the hospital when a truck struck a moped in Negaunee Friday.

City Police say it happened just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Silver and Iron Streets. A moped driven by a 41-year-old man ran a stop sign on Iron Street and was struck by a pickup driven by a 77-year-old woman that was southbound on Silver Street.

The moped driver was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting in the incident were the Negaunee City Fire Department, Ishpeming Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, UPHS-Bell EMS, and Anttila’s Towing.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
