Man seriously injured in Marinette County ATV accident

ATHELSTANE, WI— One person was seriously injured in an ATV crash in Marinette County Friday.

Sheriff Randy Miller says the accident happened around 5:35 p.m. on Forest Road 221 in the town of Athelstane.

The adult male driver of the ATV failed to negotiate a corner and lost control of the vehicle. The ATV went into a ditch and came to rest against a tree.

The driver was ejected and also hit a tree. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The operator was transported out of the woods by Silver Cliff Rescue, then airlifted to Green Bay for advanced medical treatment.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
